Dear Bethlehem family,
It's a new era for Bethlehem. We are a strong congregation with many gifts, talents and interests. We have a rich diversity within the church family.
I trust each of you received a letter from the Bishop giving the results of the Listening Post. As your pastors we are dedicated to helping each one take an honest and courageous look at the issues, seek reconciliation where needed and embrace God's purpose for Bethlehem.
We are in a new era, as we shift to attitudes of reconciliation and congregational health let us continue to discern God's purpose for our lives. As each of you live out your call of discipleship pray for courage, wisdom and peace.
Together with the church council, we have scheduled a Healthy Congregation Workshop for September 15. We invite each of you to mark your calendar and plan to attend. It is a time for all of us to begin to grow together into yet a stronger Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
On another note, The Reverend John Schleicher was elected as bishop of the North/West Lower Michigan Synod in a vote of 192 to 193. John has served as assistant to Bishop Gary Hansen for a number of years; has been a guest at Bethlehem and is well acquainted with the churches in our synod. Pray for our new Bishop Elect as he prepares to assume his office.
Peace and blessings to each of you.
Pastors Jim & Jean Vargo
